	The Fred's Story It was called the Bargain Center, a cigar box served as the cash register and the front door was a screen door. By 1953 there were 53 bargain centers and in 1971, we moved our current warehouse and office complex to the current location in Memphis, TN which includes over 900,000 square feet covering 20 acres under one roof. In May 2003, we opened our second 600,000 square foot distribution center in Dublin, Georgia. In less than 10 years, this forerunner for the Discount store became the best in its arena, based on 2 basic principles: Good values and great customer service.	Another key to growth in the 70’s was the addition of pharmacies in some of our stores. Today we operate over 700 Fred’s stores and more than 300 Fred’s pharmacies. Why Fred’s? Why would you choose Fred’s over other variety stores? Not only do we have great prices, but we offer many services that other variety stores do not. We acccept credit cards, offer layaway services, and have full service pharmacies in most store locations. We offer over 11,000 items under one convenient roof with a reputation for exceptional customer service.
