FRED'S can be found in 15 states and carries everyday household items, health aids, apparel and much more. As a bonus, many of our stores also contain a pharmacy. Below are a few interesting tidbits about our company.

• 1947 - Opens first store in Coldwater, MS

• A cigar box served as the first cash register

• A screen door served as the entrance/exit

• 1971 - Grows to 53 stores. Distribution center and headquarters moves to Memphis, TN

• 1978 - FRED'S begins adding Pharmacies to some stores

• Memphis Distribution Center is 900,000 square feet, covering 20 acres under one roof

• 2003 - opens second Distribution Center with 600,000 square feet in Dublin, Georgia

• 2008 - FRED'S now has over 600 stores and 300 pharmacies.
